The Best Way To Change Bad Nutrition Habits

The best way to change your bad nutrition habits is to do it very slowly. If you try to change everything all at once, it will seem too overwhelming and hard to maintain. Try changing one thing at a time.

For example, perhaps you like a morning flavored latte on the way to work. Make a small change by deciding to change to a non-flavored latte, non-fat milk and a small size. Maybe you’re use to the traditional after work or dinner drink. Start by cutting back to three nights a week you indulge. Don’t change anything else about your nutrition habits until you feel totally comfortable about the dietary changes you made. Don’t try to do it cold turkey and all at once. This is a recipe for not making long term life style changes.

Next you may eliminate the latte for a water or the evening drink to just Saturday. The key is to decide what the small steps you need to make and are comfortable sustaining.

Then move on to something else, like healthy snacks. Instead of that sugar packed chocolate “energy bar”, pack a piece of fruit and a small tub of yogurt. Essentially fruit is natures snack food, it’s also cheaper. While fruit does contain sugar and too much can derail fat loss goals, this is still a great small step in the right direction.

Once you’re comfortable with this healthy change, move onto something else. You get the picture. When you’ve got your diet sorted out and are consuming more healthy food to aid in your nutrition, be sure to get frequent exercise into your lifestyle – frequent being the key word. Frequent and consistent exercise also gives you more room to error in your nutrition, while you work on these small changes.

So it doesn’t seem to be such an abrupt change, you just need to understand more about what your food and what the energy value is and the nutrient value of what you are consuming, and make slow but lifelong changes to your lifestyle.
